This is a good a place to start as any!
We heard our baby's heartbeat for the first time this afternoon. It took several minutes to find, as the baby was moving around quite a bit and doing everything he/she could to elude the doctor's Doppler. But once she locked in, it was the most amazing sound. Woosh, woosh, woosh...
Katie is closing in on her 12th week and everything appears to be very healthy. She's no longer as tired as she had been, and is looking forward to the boost of energy she will supposedly receive in the second trimester! My wife is trying on maternity clothes and making the switch from yoga to prenatal yoga. As for food cravings, mint Oreos are still a favorite of hers.
Over the next year, we'll be chronicling our adventures in pregnancy and home building. It's going to be a busy year, but we'll do our best to post updates from time to time and let our family and friends know how we're doing. We hope you can drop by and say hello!
Happy holidays,
Paul & Katie

Thanks for inviting us to be a part of this important time in your life Paul- what an honor!
While I'm thinking about it, I highly recommend The Bradley Method for childbirth classes. You can search online for instructors and info. They're much more natural-childbirth oriented than LaMaze- and I'm assuming Katie would be interested based on the yoga reference. We drove over an hour for our class and it was well worth it.
Please tell her to contact me if she needs any information on natural childbirth, immunizations, etc. I know it can be hard to find information on some of this stuff, and I'd love to help in any way I can. Recommended readings (although I may have the exact titles off): Husband-Coached Childbirth, The Thinking Woman's Guide to Childbirth, Cultural Warping of Childbirth (haven't read this one yet), and Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way.
Many blessings your way- I'll keep you in my prayers!
